On the bus back to Sarajevo, I was in awe after visiting this one mosque in Travnik. It was so beautiful that I wanted to share it on my stories. I knew I wasn’t going to share about me traveling as a whole, but just this one mosque – I couldn’t not share its beauty.
So I posted.
“What was your intention to post the stories?” Fadza asked me in the bus when he saw me posting.
“I want to share the beauty of the mosque,” I answered.
“But why?”
“Because it was beautiful!”
“Did you have to?”
“Well, nobody has to share anything, really. I just thought it would be nice.”
“You don’t think people might wish they could travel there to?”
Omg was this considered showing off? I asked myself. I may have wanted to show my (private) followers the beauty of the mosque, but in doing so, am I indirectly showing off that I’m travelling? That’s not the intention… but I just didn’t want to trigger anything. So I took the stories down.
This “public” journey of mine started exactly twenty years ago. The day I started my blog. I started sharing a small peep into my life, then another peep, then another. Before I knew it, I became one of the OG bloggers in Malaysia (alongside my peers, the likes of Fourfeetnine and Keknis). I don’t know what my blog’s appeal was, especially because in the early days, I pixelated my face so no one knew who I was and what I looked like. I did this purely because I was scared my dad would find out. 😂 He did anyway, but surprisingly gave me the green light to keep writing.
So I kept going. Until… I went too far – I shared my wedding, I shared my belongings, I shared the story of every new handbag, I shared my holidays, I shared my company, I shared my colleagues, I shared my kids – my followers knew my whole world.
They loved it. I loved it.
But many didn’t.
The ones who didn’t….
