Free Fridays: Starting from now.
17 October 2025
The week hasn’t gotten lighter.
Our nations’s been hit by more horrible news, this time about shocking crimes in school - murder, gang rape, bullying. Parents are left thinking and reflecting about our own roles to play, as well as schools’ and the government’s. Our hearts ached for the families of the child victims who lost their lives in traumatic ways. Lives were lost too young, too sudden, too brutal.
As a parent, I was left disturbed and took this as a wakeup call to check on my children and what I can do better for my own household.
Writing to express how I feel as a mother.
Here goes….
Starting From Now
The world feels louder every day,
and schools don’t feel so safe to play.
At a time my kids are growing fast,
my attention on them is a must.So thank You, God, for giving this pause,
a gentle break to see the cause.
You’re showing me what matters most,
not wealth, not fame, but who I hold close. My children stand at teenage doors,
where tests and temptations fill their core.
They act so sure, but deep inside,
they need our hands to help them guide.“You just don’t get it,” they will say,
but I’ll stay near, come what may.
They’ll hate the rules, they’ll push, they’ll fight,
but I’ll keep on choosing what feels right. No more nods while half online,
I’ll be all in, body and mind.
I’ll listen close to all they share,
their chatter, laughter, whispered cares. My best friend said, and now I see,
they shouldn’t get what’s left of me.
Not tired scraps before we sleep,
but main priority, both loud and deep. The games will lessen, they’ll pout, they’ll groan,
but we’ll find joy that’s ours alone.
More walks, more sweat, more skies to find,
more talks that linger in hearts and minds.I’ll guard my girls with gentle grace,
teach worth and strength, not just the face.
And to my sons, I’ll teach it true,
that real power lifts - it doesn’t rule. Some nights will ache, some days I’ll fail,
the winds of doubt will sometimes wail.
But love’s my compass, rough or fine,
I’ll keep their hearts forever in mine.Nothing’s certain, I’ve learned somehow,
We’ll do better - starting from now.
A sacred pause, a chance to mend,
to show them love that has no end.
Before you go…
